Pre-prep

What is Pre-Prep?

Pre-Prep is the new name for Four-Year-Old Kindergarten in Victoria and reflects expanded learning hours in the year before school. The program builds on Three-Year-Old Kindergarten and gives children even more time to learn, grow, play and form friendships before starting school.

Pre-Prep will continue to be play-based and led by qualified early childhood teachers just like Four-Year-Old Kindergarten, following the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework.

As part of the Victorian Government’s best start reforms, Pre-Prep is gradually being rolled out across the state. Over time the program will expand from 15 hours per week to up to 30 hours per week, giving families more flexibility and children more time to engage in quality early learning before school.

Why Pre-Prep Matters

Pre-Prep gives children more time to:

• Explore and learn through play

• Develop confidence and independence

• Build social and communication skills

• Prepare for a smooth transition to primary school

All of this happens in a nurturing, play-based environment with experienced teachers who support each child’s growth.
